* After reading “What Noise Comes From a Giraffe?” written by Craig MacLean, Hannah researched animal sounds and created this poem.
Awesome is how I would describe the African themed community dinner held at Navarre Primary School on Wednesday, the 13th of September.
Forty enthusiastic community members enjoyed a scrumptious shared- dinner with friends and family. After dinner our special guests arrived, their names being Fredrick and Danielle. They were from “One Spirit African Drumming and Dance.”
Fred was dressed in eye-catching clothes filled with colours and patterns. His hair had colourful beads threaded through it.
The classroom now looked like a stage with different types of instruments that we had never seen before. All forty community members were totally captivated as Fred began to drum energetically.
Everyone was amazed when Fred played a flute out of each nostril and his mouth at the same time.
As time went on Fred asked all the children to join him on the stage to learn how to dance the African way. We all enjoyed learning the dance moves.
After the dancing, Fred invited us all to have a go at drumming on real African drums.
We could all feel the energy in the room as everyone began to learn the rhythms. Every one of all ages were having fun while learning the beats. During the performance, when we were all drumming, I yelled out, “This is awesome!” Everyone agreed.
Unfortunately it was time for Fred and Danielle to go home. We felt sad because we didn’t want the night to end. We waved goodbye and hoped to see them again.
